Available Guinea Pigs

Adoption Policy »
  1. Before applying, review the page about appropriate CAGES (click here) . It is very important to us that your guinea pig has a proper size cage!
  2. We do NOT SHIP guinea pigs. You must be able to come to us for the adoption.
  3. We do NOT ADOPT to minors. Heads-of-household only can apply to adopt. Please do not apply to adopt if you are a minor living with your parents.
  4. We do NOT ADOPT to people who have other pets living outdoors (with the exception of horses and other farm animals).
  5. Review important guinea pig DIET information: What to Feed Your Guinea Pig.
  6. We have a "pairs policy". If you own a guinea pig, we are happy to help you find a compatible friend amongst ours. If you don't own a guinea pig, you may adopt a bonded pair or create a pair from our single guinea pigs. When you don't already own a guinea pig, we highly recommend adopting one of our bonded pairs - that way you know you have a pair that gets along, and won't run the risk of them not getting along once you get them home.

Fees »

  • $55 per neutered male guinea pig
  • $70 per spayed female guinea pig
  • $100 for bonded pairs (Pairs listed on the site together)
  • Unlike some other rescue groups, all of our guinea pigs are spayed/neutered and have been to a vet for a checkup prior to adoption. While the adoption fee helps to cover some of the vet costs, our expenses far exceed the adoption fees. Click Here to see why we feel that spaying/neutering our guinea pigs is so important. Not only does it control the guinea pig population, there are definite health benefits.
  • A contract must be signed at adoption time

Notice about adopting female guinea pigs:There is currently a higher demand for spayed, female guinea pigs than availability. There may be up to a two month waiting period after submitting an application. We are limited by which guinea pigs are available in the local shelters and availability of foster homes. We appreciate your patience when adopting.

    Name:Aspen
    Sex:Male
    Type: Red Agouti/American Shorthair
    Age: 1 Year , 8 Months
    Altered:Neutered
    Special Needs:YES

Hello, my name is ASPEN I have quite a long story to tell. I came to MGPR last August. I was confiscated by animal control in Walterboro South Carolina when they raided a cock fighting facility. It was very apparent from my behavior and the behavior of my friends that we were not there as pets. The shelter could not find a nearby place for us and contacted MGPR. MGPR made room for us but we needed transport up. That was a whole other terrible experience. We hitched a ride with a dog rescue that was transporting dogs up north. We were in a panel truck stacked floor to ceiling for over 12 hours with dozens of barking dogs. It was awful for us little guinea pigs. So, we arrived in the wee small hours of the morning and thought everything was going to be great. Some of my friends were able to settle down right away. A few of us took longer and a few others remain scaredy pigs. I went to a nice foster home and things seemed to be going well for me, but something happened that kind of put me off my food. After a dental and a lot of attention it was discovered that I had developed a true hate for the pellets the rescue uses. They have put me on an alternative pellet and Im doing great these days. My weight is up, and I am a sweet happy cuddle bug. I love to be held and I love my foster mom, but Ive been in rescue almost a year now Im ready for a friend and a home of my own. If you adopt me, you will need to check my weight each week. No kidding every single week, and you will need to feed me a pellet called Selective. It is available on Amazon Prime for $16.09 or It is available from Petco for $9.69 with free shipping if you sign up for auto delivery. It is very possible that I will at some point need another dental. My teeth tip in a bit more than most guinea pigs creating a situation that would allow my teeth to over grow more quickly than most if something happens to put me off my food again. Thats my story in all its glory. Is there a place in your heart and home for me? Ill be waiting for you.

    Name:Luke
    Sex:Male
    Type: Black & Red/American Shorthair
    Age: 1 Year , 1 Month
    Altered:Neutered

My favorite place is curled up under my fleece blanket. I love being in tight, snug places where I can cuddle up next to a warm body. Maybe you have a nice lady pig to be my cuddle buddy too?

My foster brother is a bit bossy but Ive learned to stake my claim on the best veggies during floor time and I have gotten much bolder and more vocal clucking around while I explore. I am becoming quite the confident young man.

I have so much love to give, would you let me give it to you? I promise to make you smile.

    Name:Heirloom & Clark Kent
    Sex:Male/Female Pair
    Type: Red & White / Black & White/American
    Age: 1 Year , 10 Months
    Altered:Neutered/Spayed

Clark Kent and Heirloom are a recently bonded pair. She is the more dominant of the two and Clark knows when he can approach her. They love eating veggies side by side and will willingly share their hay. Heirloom is a wonderful eater and enjoys all her veggies voraciously. She loves strawberries, cherry tomatoes, chard and any green veggies. She waits patiently for her food though she does squeaks if the delivery does not happen fast enough. Clark loves Heirloom and defers to her, he likes his dried foods pellets, treats, and other nibbles. He will also eat veggies and like a good gentleman, he lets Heirloom get the choicest bits first. Clark is a very talkative boy at lap time and when they are both out on the lap for socializing, they can chat up a storm. At night, they put themselves to sleep in their own fleece tunnels and during the day, they like lounging under the fleece forest. Clark and Heirloom are a happy pair though they may occasionally squabble like any true couple. They have also learned to take treats by hand.

    Name:Rhaegal

    Type: Brown & White/Americanshorthair
    Age: 9 Months
    Altered:No

Does your boy need an adorable pal to run and play with? I'm athletic, proud, and shoutin' out loud that I am in charge. You want a quiet cuddle pig? I can be that too! My foster mom says I'm the best of both worlds. She also says I'm just the cutest little petite thing ever. I do, however, have the tendency to kiss with teeth so I'd be most suitable for someone aged 12+. I am so looking forward to my forever home. Maybe it can be with you! Put in an application!

    Name:Galilea
    Sex:Male
    Type: Red & white/Abyssinian
    Age: 1 Year , 1 Month
    Altered:Neutered

Hi, I'm Galilea! I'm quite a handsome gentleman, don't you think? I've got beautiful, wild red hair, and I like to keep in shape by running laps around my cage. I'm also very friendly--I've taken to my foster humans very well, even when my brother got adopted and I was left alone. Sometimes I follow them from one end of my cage to the other and talk to them. But I am especially friendly when you have my favorite treats. I can get quite loud when I want one, especially if I think you might be getting ready to give me one! I'll even stand up at the side of my cage to take the treat from your hand. I hope you'll consider adopting me. I'm a real gem and will make a great friend!

    Name:Lagertha & Piggerton
    Sex:Male/Female Pair
    Type: Brown & Blonde / Red & Lilac/Abysinnian / Crested
    Age: 6 Months
    Altered:Neutered/Spayed

My name is Lagertha, but my foster-mom calls me Yum Nugget. That is what MGPR calls all of us who were born here to moms who came from the Louisa County rescue. I come from a very large extended family of sweet and sociable pigs. I am a confident and chatty Abby girl. I am curious and I like to explore and climb on things. I am pretty good at popcorning and zoomies too. I LOVE chin rubs, and will stand with my nose pointed at the ceiling for them. My mom and my brother have found their forever homes, but I was asked to stay behind for a special mission: To help Piggerton learn to how to be a good friend to other guinea pigs and relax a little. He and his brothers came from a scary place and have had some trouble adjusting. He is bigger and older than I am, but I am braver and smarter, ha ha! Once I figured him out we started to have fun! Now we live together and love getting out for floor time. Sometimes he forgets his manners and I have to remind him to behave. I am getting good at defending my share of the treats! Our favorites are cucumber and cherry tomatoes. My name is Piggerton. I have a reputation as a wild guy but my foster mom says I am secretly a warm and kissable potato cuddle lump. I have a lot of energy and I am very fast! I came from a bad place. You can read about that in my brother Aspen's story. Even though that happened when I was a little piglet, it still affects me. But we all have quirks, right? One of my mine is that when I am in a hide, it is just for me and if there is someone else there I get upset. Lagertha knows this and needs to get out when I come in, so we need at least two hides and they need at least two ways in or out. That means no pigloos. And I do not like sharing the pellet bowl or water bottle, so that means we need two of each. Another of my quirks is that when I see hands reaching for me I run! I get scared. But I also really do like lap time and cuddles with humans, so that makes things kinda tricky. My foster mom is trying to teach me to go into a fleece sack to be picked up so it will be less scary. Maybe you could work with me on that too. Are you OK with me being me? I promise I won't care about your quirks if you don't care about mine!

    Name:Zaxx
    Sex:Male
    Type: Red Brown/Abyssinian
    Age: 3 Months
    Altered:Neutered

Im a little orange ball of cuteness! I may be small, but my voice is anything but! I am already a great rumble-strutter, I get lots of practice in with my grid-mate. I like to rearrange my furniture and make my own special hiding places in my cage. Im still learning about being picked up and held but I am getting used to cuddles. Im getting pretty good at using the litter boxes in my cage, my foster mom says that makes cage cleaning much easier. Oh, by the way, the only thing bigger than my very loud voice is my appetite! Keep those veggies coming, especially the lettuce, its my favorite!

My mom was treated badly and came out of a very stressful situation. She only managed to get to rescue a few hours before I was born. Name:Chesaco & Ripple
    Sex:Male/Female Pair
Type: Brown Agouti / White Blaze & White with Gray Agout/Agouti & Abyssinian
    Age: 4 Years , 2 Months
    Altered:Neutered/Spayed
    Special Needs:YES

Chesaco and Ripple are quite the pair! Chesaco (brown and white) is an older male who is a big love bug. If you give him a light scratch between the shoulder blades, he will melt into a puddle of purrs. He enjoys lap time and LOVES to run around during floor time, especially when there are tunnels and other toys to check out. Ripple (gray Abby) isn't really into cuddles or lap time. However, if you are lucky, Ripple will let you give her a head scratch. She does loves floor time, especially when she has a large area to run around in and obstacles to run around (or over). Ripple likes to incite the crowds and will let you know exactly when she needs a cookie and/or veggies. Chesaco follows her lead. These two will always come up to the side of the cage to say "hi", and love to interact with anyone who will give them attention. They are a fun pair chock full of personality. Chesaco has slightly soft poos which isn"t an issue if he is on bedding instead of fleece.
