Available Guinea Pigs

Adoption Policy »
  1. Before applying, review the page about appropriate CAGES (click here) . It is very important to us that your guinea pig has a proper size cage!
  2. We do NOT SHIP guinea pigs. You must be able to come to us for the adoption.
  3. We do NOT ADOPT to minors. Heads-of-household only can apply to adopt. Please do not apply to adopt if you are a minor living with your parents.
  4. We do NOT ADOPT to people who have other pets living outdoors (with the exception of horses and other farm animals).
  5. Review important guinea pig DIET information: What to Feed Your Guinea Pig.
  6. We have a "pairs policy". If you own a guinea pig, we are happy to help you find a compatible friend amongst ours. If you don't own a guinea pig, you may adopt a bonded pair or create a pair from our single guinea pigs. When you don't already own a guinea pig, we highly recommend adopting one of our bonded pairs - that way you know you have a pair that gets along, and won't run the risk of them not getting along once you get them home.

Fees »

  • $55 per neutered male guinea pig
  • $70 per spayed female guinea pig
  • $100 for bonded pairs (Pairs listed on the site together)
  • Unlike some other rescue groups, all of our guinea pigs are spayed/neutered and have been to a vet for a checkup prior to adoption. While the adoption fee helps to cover some of the vet costs, our expenses far exceed the adoption fees. Click Here to see why we feel that spaying/neutering our guinea pigs is so important. Not only does it control the guinea pig population, there are definite health benefits.
  • A contract must be signed at adoption time

Notice about adopting female guinea pigs:There is currently a higher demand for spayed, female guinea pigs than availability. There may be up to a two month waiting period after submitting an application. We are limited by which guinea pigs are available in the local shelters and availability of foster homes. We appreciate your patience when adopting.

    Name:Aspen
    Sex:Male
    Type: Red Agouti/American Shorthair
    Age: 1 Year , 11 Months
    Altered:Neutered
    Special Needs:YES

Hello, my name is ASPEN I have quite a long story to tell. I came to MGPR last August. I was confiscated by animal control in Walterboro South Carolina when they raided a cock fighting facility. It was very apparent from my behavior and the behavior of my friends that we were not there as pets. The shelter could not find a nearby place for us and contacted MGPR. MGPR made room for us but we needed transport up. That was a whole other terrible experience. We hitched a ride with a dog rescue that was transporting dogs up north. We were in a panel truck stacked floor to ceiling for over 12 hours with dozens of barking dogs. It was awful for us little guinea pigs. So, we arrived in the wee small hours of the morning and thought everything was going to be great. Some of my friends were able to settle down right away. A few of us took longer and a few others remain scaredy pigs.

I went to a nice foster home and things seemed to be going well for me, but something happened that kind of put me off my food. After a dental and a lot of attention it was discovered that I had developed a true hate for the pellets the rescue uses. They have put me on an alternative pellet and I am doing great these days. My weight is up, and I am a sweet happy cuddle bug. I love to be held and I love my foster mom, but I have been in rescue almost a year now I am ready for a friend and a home of my own. If you adopt me, you will need to check my weight each week. No kidding every single week, and you will need to feed me a pellet called Selective. It is available on Amazon Prime for $16.09 or It is available from Petco for $9.69 with free shipping if you sign up for auto delivery. It is very possible that I will at some point need another dental. My teeth tip in a bit more than most guinea pigs creating a situation that would allow my teeth to over grow more quickly than most if something happens to put me off my food again.

That is my story in all it is glory. Is there a place in your heart and home for me? I will be waiting for you.

    Name:Heirloom & Clark Kent
    Sex:Male/Female Pair
    Type: Red & White / Black & White/American
    Age: 2 Years , 1 Month
    Altered:Neutered/Spayed

Clark Kent and Heirloom are a recently bonded pair. She is the more dominant of the two and Clark knows when he can approach her. They love eating veggies side by side and will willingly share their hay. Heirloom is a wonderful eater and enjoys all her veggies voraciously. She loves strawberries, cherry tomatoes, chard and any green veggies. She waits patiently for her food though she does squeaks if the delivery does not happen fast enough. Clark loves Heirloom and defers to her, he likes his dried foods pellets, treats, and other nibbles. He will also eat veggies and like a good gentleman, he lets Heirloom get the choicest bits first. Clark is a very talkative boy at lap time and when they are both out on the lap for socializing, they can chat up a storm. At night, they put themselves to sleep in their own fleece tunnels and during the day, they like lounging under the fleece forest. Clark and Heirloom are a happy pair though they may occasionally squabble like any true couple. They have also learned to take treats by hand.

    Special Needs:YES

Hello. We are a sweet (read bossy) father / daughter pair. We are marked special needs because I, Miley, am not spayed. Because of our age the veterinarian didn't see the point in subjecting me to an elective procedure since daddy was already taken care of right after I was born. We are a lively sassy team that knows exactly how we want you to run your home. Us first and we demand it. Everything else after. When they coined the term piggy slave they were talking about our owners. We will get you trained up in no time.

    Name:Cutie Pie
    Sex:Female
    Type: Red & White/Abyssinian
    Age: 3 Years , 1 Month
    Altered:Spayed

Hello, What do you think about my name. The first minute that the person at MGPR looked at me she said aren't you a cutie pie and that was all the thinking that needed to be done about a name for me. I'm a very social little lady. I've been living alone but I'd like a friend I think. I need a human too. My human was deployed and his family couldn't keep me. I was obviously very spoiled and loved by him so a really super devoted human is on my wish list too.

Hello I'm number 58. MGPR is going to be calling me that to remind people that in some cases guinea pigs are tagged through their ears for identification purposes. They say boo to that. Every guinea pig should be easily identified by it's owners. If you have too many to easily tell them apart then you just plain have too many.
